"Books are a uniquely portable magic." - Stephen King

Unesco World Book Day was celebrated on 25th of April with a whole gamut of activities centred around books and reading. The children of grades Pre-Nursery, Nursery, and KG enjoyed storytelling, which their facilitators brought to life using props. Grade 1 and 2 tried their luck with a book lottery that encouraged them to explore new titles, read a page or two and reflect on the same. Students from Grade 3 created an illustrated booklet based on a much-loved story, while children from Grade 4 and 5 tasted a whole buffet of books to expand their reading palates. Grades 6, 7 and 8 tested their writing skills and explored varied perspectives related to books through a RAFT activity, which not only strengthens understanding of a perspective, but also helps understand and appreciate the role of authors. Students loved being writers and could relate with the challenges and pleasures of assuming that role.
This celebration reinforced the joy of reading and introduced students to new genres and novel ways of thinking.

Pre Nursery joins the ‘Clean Hands Club’ – May 19, 2023

“Hand hygiene is an important lifetime habit for staying healthy".
Proper hand hygiene is the best way to prevent the spread of germs and viruses. Cleaning hands either with soap and water or by using hand sanitizer, has a significant impact on our health. It not only prevents catching germs but also spreading them to others. As part of the ongoing theme - Health and Hygiene, Pre-Nursery students have started getting into the habit of regular handwashing.
Grasping a tricky concept like invisible germs proved to be easy as the toddlers took part in an interactive experiment involving a dash of magic. The activity started by adding a few drops of liquid soap to a deep tray filled with water, to which some pepper had been added. The pepper symbolized "germs“, and the kids observed how germs raced to the sides of the deep tray as soon as a few drops of liquid soap was added, leaving the water around their fingers clean. This simple yet effective demonstration helped illustrate that germs don't like soap. The kids were amazed that a few drops of soap could have such a dramatic and magical effect. They learned that soap kills germs and keeps hands clean.
The rhyme "This Is The Way We Wash Our Hands" has become an anthem for toddlers, who are now part of the "Clean Hands" club!

Grade 2 had a thrilling scavenger hunt at school as they searched for hidden items in the play area. Once the hunt ended, they sorted the items into odd and even groups, reinforcing their numerical skills. Using quilling techniques, they went on to design the cover page of their Word Bank Book. While the Grade 3 students discovered the lost art of handmade paper, the budding artisans of Grade 4 explored the artistry of crafting their personalised candles. They ventured into the fascinating world of solar energy, and learnt about its benefits and applications. Grade 5 took various skills up a notch as they indulged in storytelling and soap-making.
Grade 6 took part in the unique experience of making Oobleck. It was kneaded, stretched, and swirled into different shapes and movements for several minutes. In addition to refining motor skills, Oobleck helps children regulate their emotions. Jubilant smiles spread across the students in Grades 7 and 8 as they experimented with slime-making. The next activity involved making a self-propelled boat using a bottle and popsicle sticks. Students stared in astonishment as they saw their creations move forward in the water.
